Pinch of Dirt is a free, mostly weekly, sometimes irregular newsletter about nature, outdoor adventure, and the environment.
Paid subscribers receive an additional once-a-month travel itinerary, and can request custom itineraries for specific locations and activities. Previous itineraries have included the Devil’s Path in New York, and Austin and Texas Hill Country. Paid subscribers also have access to the Pinch of Dirt archives.

Who writes Pinch of Dirt? I do! I am a journalist, an enthusiastic hiker and backpacker, and an urban gardener.
Why? I started this newsletter in 2017 to share the best nature, travel, and adventure writing I found on the internet, and to try my hand at crafting some of my own.
Where did your logo/image come from? I snagged the illustration from the public domain. It originally appeared in a book titled The Gardener’s Assistant: A Practical and Scientific Exposition of the Art of Gardening in all its Branches.
How much does a subscription cost? A basic Pinch of Dirt subscription is free, but most of the online archives are behind a paywall. Becoming a paid subscriber gives you access to previous posts, to Pinch of Dirt itineraries, and helps support my writing here and elsewhere.
How else can I show my support? Share the posts you like most on social media, forward the newsletter to your friends, and encourage others to subscribe!
